Who We Are

Gospel Light Baptist Church is an Independent Baptist church located in the North Laurel/Shady Grove community. Our church is easily accessible from Hwy. 15 North and Audubon Drive. Our church facilities are located on a spacious 2-acres of property with tremendous potential for growth.

January 9, 2000 was the very first service for Gospel Light Baptist Church. We officially organized on May 7, 2000 with 18 charter members.

Because every independent Baptist church is an autonomous congregation, we are therefore a self- governing and self-supporting ministry. The head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ. The King James Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice. It is our desire to be a truly New Testament church.

At Gospel Light Baptist Church, we have one message-the message of the Lord Jesus Christ, and one ministry-the ministry He has given us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Our church supports missionaries around the world fulfilling the Great Commission of Christ.

Pastor Tim Weems’ Bio

Growing up in a Christian home where his family actively served the Lord, Bro. Tim learned early in life the importance of the church. At the age of 8 years old, he bowed down beside a little, brown couch at home and trusted Christ as his personal Saviour.

During a Spring Revival in 1982 at the age of 17, Tim made a public declaration before the church of his call to preach the gospel. He taught Sunday School classes, ran a bus route, preached nursing homes, went street preaching and weekly door to door visitation for the church.

In 1987 Bro. Tim met his future wife, Deana McCree. It was June of 1989 that they were married and continued in Bible College at Tabernacle Baptist College in Greenville, SC, under Dr. Harold Sightler. Tim earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theology in 1992 and immediately began to pastor.

After pastoring in New Orleans, LA, Maben, MS, and Natchez, MS, Pastor Weems came back to his hometown in 1999 to plant and start an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in the city of Laurel, Ms.

Bro. Tim and Mrs. Deana have three grown children: Caleb (Katie), Selah (Colton), and Hannah who are all actively serving the Lord in various ministries.

His burden is to plant more Independent Baptist churches throughout the State of Mississippi and sending them out from Gospel Light in Laurel.
